Wool fabric can help to decrease light penetration significantly. They do not entirely block out light, but they can have a significant dampening impact. Again, the thicker the material and the more pleats there are, the less light will be able to pass through. Furthermore, when used as a backdrop, it reflects very little light, so when bright stage lights are directed at it, most of the light is absorbed.
